Summer event 2009

Mills of South Co. Antrim - 12th & 13th JUNE 2009

We are pleased to announce another “action-packed” 2 day event this summer. There are mills in abundance in the south Co. Antrim area and we hope to visit quite a few. The following programme has been arranged:-

FRIDAY 12TH JUNE
Meet at Dunadry Inn & Country Club at 7p.m. for a short talk by Ronnie Barnes on the history of Dunadry, which was formerly a beetling mill. This will be followed by dinner at the hotel. For those wishing to stay at Dunadry, contact Mooney Reservations on 048 90385050 and mention booking ref. DDA12609. They are offering a special B&B rate for our members. Also let them know if you will be staying for dinner.

SATURDAY 13TH JUNE
9.30 –10a.m. Meet at Dunadry Inn car park for coach to Mossley Mill. A 33 seater coach has been hired to take us on our mill visits, since some are inaccessible by car. Also cars cannot be left at Mossley Mill since it closes in the afternoon. The coach will leave promptly at 10a.m. for the 30 min. journey to Mossley Mill.
10.30 – 11.30a.m. Tour of Mossley Mill, followed by Tea/coffee and scones.
11.30 – 1.30p.m. Visits to 3 mills in the surrounding area:-
Burnside – a former beetling mill;
Dunadry Mill – with a water wheel in restoration;
Snipe Island – a former corn mill with a 20ft diameter wheel.
1.30 – 2.30p.m. Return to Dunadry Inn for lunch. Coach trip to Patterson’s Spade Mill.
2.45 – 5.15p.m. Tour of Spade Mill and talk by Dr. Charles Ludlow.
5.15 – 5.30p.m. Return to Dunadry Inn to collect cars.

Places will be limited since the coach only seats 33 people, so early booking for this event is essential!

The cost is €30/£30 per person. This includes the cost of coach hire, entrance fees and refreshments and lunch.

Accommodation and dinner on Friday evening will be at members’ own expense. Dunadry Inn has quoted a cost of £18 per person for dinner and with the current weakness of Sterling against the Euro, the hotel rates are most competitive.

OTHER ACCOMMODATION IN THE AREA:-
Comfort Hotel Antrim – 048 9446 2929
Hilton Hotel Templepatrick – 048 9443 5500
Wentworth Country House – 048 94432100
